Since, where I am, it is so cold, messy and slippery outside:

Fortunately, after the excitement of the Tango dancers, these ladies didn’t move at all.

I stopped for a coffee in Penn Station’s Au Bon Pain. It was a bit awkward sketching this snoozing gentleman (remember him?) since my view of him was by looking between the two women at the table right next to me. When I saw one of them sneaking peeks at me I apologized and told her who I was sketching which led to show-and-tell and stories of their children. He snoozed on and I kept sketching.

On Sunday the NYC Urban Sketchers went to a Tango Brunch at Session 73 on the Upper East Side.

One of our sketchers, Shawne, an avid Tango dancer, arranged this brunch for another Tango aficionado, Lucille, as a birthday celebration which included dancers and sketchers.

It is really difficult to sketch couples dancing the Tango as they go round and round and round. Later on I was told that the sketching gets easier after a few drinks. Live and learn.

I walked up to Columbus Circle. It was a spring-like day so I was able to comfortably stroll around and sketch outside.

My usual – before appointment – breakfast spot is either undergoing renovations in Penn Station or is gone forever. I found a nice place near the subway stop on 53rd Street. One problem, though, there are wait staff so I have to be conscious of table availability and not overstay my welcome by dawdling. So far it appears that there is a bigger take-out crowd so there are always plenty of empty tables at breakfast time.

I walk to my appointment via Madison Avenue past the backside of all the security barricades on 56th Street. The IBM public space (a good place to hang out) is within these barricades. I found out from one of the cops on the street that it is still accessible from 57th Street.

I took the bus to Penn Station and waited for my train to be announced.

Then I waited on the train as they figured out how to get us out of the city.
