Time was up. We all met back at the benches. While I waited I sketched Elissa demonstrating her tree painting techniques to one of the participants. They were unknowingly posing for me – unlike the trees – they knew exactly that their best sides were showing and kept very still for me.

I moved my stool a bit toward the arch where there was a man with a wild white beard skyping dramatically with someone far away. It took me awhile to realize he was exuberantly signing and I was fleetingly tempted to sketch him (that is my “thing”) but the trees called, that was the reason for the day, so I turned my stool around and was not disappointed.

I was encouraged to shift my stool clockwise a bit and noticed, through the arch of the overpass that there were trees eagerly waiting to be noticed.

I was enjoying myself now. I shifted position and the trees happily posed against a backdrop of the stone wall – part of an overpass.
