Archives for the month of: June, 2018

She was wearing some kind of complicated wrap around thing that was either fashion (!) or had to do with the infant her husband was tending while she went to and fro fetching lunch.

This is a good area for unobtrusive people sketching.

After an earlier appointment I decided to stop in at MoMA and see if there was anything going on. There was.

I wasn’t in the mood to sketch, wanted to finish my book, but before I realized it my pen had put them down on a paper towel so I made a collage.

I’ve started a new little pad and for the 30x30directwatercolor2018 facebook challenge the next paintings will still be acrylic with nothing but a brush involved and I will refer to iPat photos taken in the streets of NYC as part of a MoMA Prime Time Portrait Photography workshop the week of June 11. Unwittingly, I seemed to have ended up with a few series and I’ve chosen one to paint. I haven’t thought too far ahead so I don’t know if I have enough material for this particular Series but everything will work out. I started each painting by covering the paper with black acrylic and then doing an underpainting using turquoise. I really like the black to show in the finished painting – satisfies my line neediness. Details are added with the brush also.

Thank goodness for Sketchers.

The model was, um, how shall I say it…

I completed the second group of ten paintings in the 30x30directwatercolor2018 challenge. I’m using acrylic paint instead and in this group of ten I referred to my sketchbook b/w drawings that were done after walking in the mall out of the winter weather last January and February. I’m convinced the direct painting without lines is getting easier. I’ve been painting a black underpainting and then refining things as I cover that with color, leaving some black visible and adding further details afterwards, still with the brush.

After the coffee break. Sketching helps with speakers who have graphs.

After the lunch break. She cracked everybody up a few times.
