Back in Penn Station having oatmeal and coffee. This was awhile ago, before the NYC Urban Sketchers Portrait Party you already know about. Figured I needed energy and a warm-up sketch.

Everybody was bundled up but these three looked like they were on a cruise. Employees in one of the shops?

Hope you’re not getting tired of these. The tiny vellum pad has Many Many pages and the mall has many miles for me to walk and many people to unwittingly pose for me.

Above the girl is a mirror reflecting the Penn Station commuters behind me as they scurry in and out of the station.

I wandered upstairs in Penn Station to Amtrak and hit pay dirt. Commuters, travelers AND Dunkin’!

After a full day in the city I got the Bright Idea that, instead of running for the train which would leave in a couple of minutes, I should take out some CHARCOAL (!) and sketch the commuters leaning against the big new pharmacy in the station. I was happy with the drawing but got another Bright Idea. At home I fixed the sketch with a spritz of hair spray and then re-sketched using an ink marker. Happier.

Sketched from direct observation, reworked at home.
