I exited the #1 subway at 168th Street, walked to the entrance of Highbridge Park on Amsterdam Avenue and 172 Street, spotted Laura and Elana coming from the opposite direction, and, inside, staring up at the High Bridge Water Tower were a whole bunch of NYC Urban Sketchers sitting on stools and benches happily sketching away.

I started the tower a couple of times, sighed, and decided to sketch what was in front of me instead of “towering” up above.

We went down a massive amount of stairs in order to reach the newly re-opened High Bridge which spans the Harlem River and connects Manhattan and the Bronx. It is very high up, long, pedestrians only, and offers some wonderful views.

Jan was back visiting from Australia. She was with the weekday sketchers last year at Madison Square Park. Today there was also a sketcher visiting from Colombia.

We were just about sprawled over the whole length of the bridge but eventually congregated in the only shade where we chatted and ate lunch.

At around 1:45 we all went in different directions. Some went back along the High Bridge. Zainab and I climbed up the massive stairs and sketched in the park while we waited for Mark. I had a convenient model on the bench to my right.
