What a day. Yesterday, Wednesday, I got into the city at 10:00 and walked down to Union Square Park. I had to. I started a one page book last week, ran out of time and it seemed like this would be a good day to finish it. Then I took a subway uptown to MOMA and spent 3-1/2 hours channelling Matisse. The Union Square book is 98.65% finished and the MOMA collages (and two little books I made there), which build upon the Union Square sketches, need to be scanned, etc. Blah blah blah.

At 4:30 I left MOMA Studio, bye bye Ken, and walked up to The Frick Collection for Wednesday Night Sketch.

These are the iPad sketches. The ones I did in my gridded notebook need to be painted. It was difficult to see the details in this painting – I was too far away, the lights were dim and I didn’t want to get up and block the view by standing close to inspect things. You know I’m not particularly fond of the artwork in this museum but how could I ignore those red feathers. She was wearing ermine and silk and I tried my best.

We were in the library this time. They seem to rotate the rooms for these Wednesday night things. Thank goodness for small favors.

I’m waiting for them to let us into the room where St. Jerome is hanging (hung?). I feel an affinity for him. A couple of years ago I made a multi-colored fun foam stamp of that painting.

So, a day full of a variety of art making and I also clocked 4.2 miles walking.
