I used an image on a pamphlet from Soufer Gallery on Madison Avenue as a reference. There was a exhibition of his watercolor and ink on paper at the gallery last Spring. It was one of the days we stopped in many galleries on the Upper East Side. I wrote about that day so don’t pretend this is the first you’re hearing of it. (A yellow asterisk will be awarded to anyone who finds that post).
I was going to head out to the park for a walk but when I stepped outside it was still too hot. Very little was needed to encourage me to get back in the house and draw. This pamphlet has been taunting me for months.
His faces are very expressive caricatures (suiting the times) and since I didn’t think I could carry it off and was not in a struggling frame of mind, I chickened out. Stick your own face there. Be my guest.
